Sanchin
Dachi Hourglass or Rooted Stance for taking a shot to the groin
This stance is used for protection against kicks to the groin. Both
feet point off to the corner, the front foot turned a little more than
the rear. Knees are bent, leaving about a fist's width between each other.
The inner thighs are tensed up. Sensei Dave Williams taught that to step
out into the stance, you do a crescent step, inside to outside ( semi-circle
as you step out ) with your front foot. This stance can also be used for
in-close fighting, giving you great stability; hence the name "rooted
stance." It may seem awkward, but for some styles this is their "fighting
stance.
